The Spirit of Film

sunvalley.jpgEvery time we go to the movies we are inundated with one blockbuster film trailer after another. And we nod our heads with approval “Oh that looks good” or with disbelieve at how a particular film could have any relevance to our lives.

Quietly in the mountain ranges of Idaho a film festival aspires to offer us stories whose intent is to express “a celebration of human spirituality through film.” (more…)

YogaHub Explores Conference

malaproject.jpgSaturday morning the YogaHub Team met at the solar powered LA Convention Center to attend the Global Mala Project as part of the Yoga Walk Exposition. Our goal was to explore, gather and experience all of the offerings of a yoga lifestyle in order to enhance our understanding and to bring back as much relative material to our site visitors.

The Yoga Walk Exposition provided rows and rows of product marketers of raw foods, hemp clothing, organic teas, book and music publishers and our favorite: elephant dung paper! (more…)

Educating a Yoga Teacher

This month’s LA Yoga magazine is offering a comprehensive and personal insight into the training of a yoga teacher, perhaps your yoga teacher. Even though Felicia M Tomasko, the editor of LA Yoga, writes that she regrets not having enough pages to include all the teachers she admired, you will find that they have done a great service to the field by publishing this annual look at the training of yoga teachers.

Yoga Class Banned in UK

Two priests are standing by their decision when they banned the teaching of yoga classes for children in their churches. Both the Silver Street Baptist Church and the St James’ Church of England in Taunton, Somerset declared that the classes were a “sham”, “a false philosophy” and “un-Christian.

Yoga and World Peace

September 21st is designated as the UN International Day of Peace. And this year it is being celebrated around the world with the dedication of yoga studios, practioners, and students who are gathering to promote peaceful action and fundraising on behalf of some of the world’s most crucial issues.

From September 21st to 23rd an international event called the Global Mala Project will take place in 35 countries, from intimate gatherings to citywide efforts. (more…)

Yoga Studio Promotes Housing

Even after a full day of teaching and running a studio, co-owner of City Yoga Rececca Benenati found the time to organize a 24-hour marathon on behalf of the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.

From a news report in LAYoga, over 50 yogis committed their mind, body and spirits to raising funds for Habitat for Humanity by participating in a 24-hour yoga poses marathon at City Yoga. (more…)
