Pain Care Yoga Retreat Filling Up

Neil Pearson

Salt Spring Island is beautiful in October. The trees are changing colour, the nights are cool and the days are warm. With such a beautiful venue as the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga – the sister centre to Mount Madonna in California – it’s no wonder the inaugural offering of Pain Care Yoga retreat is filling up fast.

Salt Spring Island is a small island east of Vancouver island in Canada. It is accessible by ferry from close to Victoria BC, or from just south of Vancouver, so people coming from afar typically fly into either of these airports. The trip is beautiful, with Orca pods often seen from the ferries. Once on the island, there are quaint villages, artisans, organics produce, and everything expected when surrounded by ocean. Cycling around the island is one of my favourite activities, especially early in the morning to catch the sunrise on pebbled beaches. (more…)

It’s not that it took three years or even three months. As a matter of fact, I kind of stumbled upon the idea a few weeks ago and in a single weekend, I managed to convert our blog site into a suitable mobile solution. Visit YogaHub.org to see the new site. (more…)

Sun Stand Still in Winter

Paloma Chavez
soltice.jpgThis is the literal Latin meaning of the word solstice (sol -sun, sistere – standing). Between December 20 and 23 the Winter Solstice is celebrated throughout the Northern Hemisphere (Southern Hemisphere celebrates June 20-23).  This time has commonly been known for  mid-winter celebrations such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and  Kwanzaa.

In ancient cultures the Winter Solstice was considered as a turning point in the year. Many communities centered their most holy and sacred buildings such as tombs and temples upon the direct alignment with the solstices.  Today, we simply define this day as “the shortest day, the longest night.” Or more scientifically “the earth leans slightly on its axis…it’s 23 degrees and 27 minutes off the perpendicular to the plane of orbit. ‘’ (more…)
