Energy of Sun Salutations

Christina Souza Ma

office-yoga.jpgI have been complaining for months about not being able to make it to Yoga classes. I have been agitated by the erratic energy among my team in the office, as well as the clutter all around me – in my house, in my office – which all in all is my life.

So what do I do? How do I shift all the energies again and create flow?

What are the simple steps – the lowest hanging fruit? (more…)

My “Gift of Yoga” Withdrawal!

Francesca Silva

eCover_GiftofYogaDVD.jpgWhat was I thinking? Well, obviously I wasn’t thinking – or I would never have let the DVD out of my sight, never mind out of my house!

Let me explain. Last week, a good friend of mine and her husband came over for dinner. Great company, great time. After dinner, when the husbands went off to watch the hockey game, my friend and I settled down for coffee and a chat. (more…)

Competing over Yoga?

Francesca Silva

competitive-yoga.JPGRemember when I told you a while ago about a friend of mine who’d become totally hooked on yoga and wanted to take some classes with me?

Well, we finally took our first class this week and – wow! Talk about competitive! I’d never seen that side of my friend before and couldn’t decide whether I was amused or irritated! (more…)

No need to focus on Breath?

Christina Souza Ma

No-Breath.JPGSo I attended an interesting Yoga class the other day.

It was my first experience with Yin Yoga. I love the concept of holding asana anywhere for about three to five minutes. Aaaaahhhh…to allow my muscles to melt into the pose.

The experience was…well, like I said…interesting. I liked the philosophy that it is based upon, but I think I was more disconcerted by the instructor and the delivery of the asanas. (more…)

Awesome Class with Stephen Espinoza

Christina Souza Ma

Steven-Espinoza.jpgWow – my return to Yoga is quite the journey.

This is my third class back. My body is feeling a bit better each time, as I’m getting reacquainted with each movement.

Has it been easy? No. Not at all! Like everything in life, we learn things and, when we have been away for a while, we have to relearn them, so it takes time to get back into the flow. Also, things change in time and approaches are different. (more…)

Converted to Yoga

Francesca Silva

Converted-to-Yoga.JPGI had a phone call from one of my friends the other day – one of the women who had tried yoga at my house during Super Bowl Sunday. Well, it turns out she’s been going to yoga classes regularly and she absolutely loves it!

It’s great! I’ve lost some weight! I bought this darling little yoga outfit that’s perfect for my classes! Can you do the tree pose? (more…)

Muscle-Crying.JPGWell, not just my muscles, but my joints, my limbs, and my buttocks too!

I just finished my first class in Anusara Yoga, which I will now be calling “Downward Facing Dog” Yoga.

I have not done so many Downward Facing Dogs EVER before in a class. (more…)

A Painful Few Days

Christina Souza Ma

CSM_painful-days_03.02.09.jpgWell, I finally started going to yoga class again and I sure felt the aftershocks of that new beginning!

No kidding, my body made it totally clear to me – especially my shoulders, which is where I’ve been experiencing so much discomfort in the past year from carrying and nursing my son. (more…)

My Wonderful New Beginning

Christina Souza Ma

Silverlake YogaI have to share with you my experience at Silverlake Yoga.

What a wonderful way to begin my physical practice again.

I chose a beginners’ class with Jonathan Emerson, who is one of the owners of Silverlake Studio, which has been around for 14 years. That is a testament in itself, when a community studio is able to sustain its location and practitioners for so many years.

Back to the Physical Practice of Yoga

Christina Souza Ma
Stretching the HamstringThe first time back to the physical practice of yoga doesn’t always feel good – I can sure attest to that!

As I mentioned in one of my previous blogs, I’ve been having some bodywork performed on me so that my body would be a little more open to returning to the physical practice of yoga after being away from it for over a year. (more…)
