Journey with My Mother

I moved away from my home town many years ago and made a life of my own away from family and school friends. I was the only one in my family to have taken the challenge to find my own path – and on my own at that.

I am so fortunate that I have a wonderful family. Very tight-knit and caring of each other. The nephews and nieces have all grown and are starting families of their own. Time flies and the universe keeps us all on our toes.

Well, this year I have chosen to escort my mother on a trip. A trip to the other side of the world. The Mediterranean, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt.

It’s been years since she and I have travelled alone together. Just the two of us. Maybe 30 years now. I did mention time flies, right?

Well, here we are at the beginning of our journey together. It will be interesting to see how this journey together unfolds. I am also finding balance as I leave my 3-1/2-year-old behind for the first time in his life and our relationship.

I just breathe and take in the moments. I feel the preciousness of time floating by – and it is only the beginning of my mother’s and my two and half weeks together as one.
