Day 17: Right Under My Nose

Megan Mcdonough

My YogaHub CommunityFor 17 days straight, I have written about how I have approached my goal of filling the Training the Trainer course. In all that time, I have not mentioned what’s been right under my nose: this YogaHub community.

Jezz, talk about overlooking the obvious.

I wonder if you have made the same mistake. Are you merely a reader of these posts rather than an active participant? If so, you are missing out on a marketing opportunity.

Posting on the YogaHub blog is more than just participating in a great community. It’s a way to gain visibility. If you post, and you have a hyperlink to your site, you can build traffic in two ways.

The first way is to provide a thoughtful and helpful comment that will encourage people to click through on your link to check out your work. The second way this YogaHub community helps build visibility for you is by appealing to those other-worldly, cyberspace creatures called spiders that crawl through the web. These spiders rank your site for relevancy in search engines.

The mysterious spiders find your little old link here on YogaHub when you include it in your posts. That link, which connects back to your website, gives you a better search engine grade. That’s a layperson’s description. I am sure Segovia (the technical guru behind this YogaHub site) is groaning right about now.

As Segovia says, “Megan, you know just enough to be dangerous.”

He’s right. I’m outside my league on search engine optimization mumbo-jumbo. I’m not about to get sucked into the black hole discussion of SEO. I’d never re-appear.

Here’s the only thing I think is important – be aware of the spiders but write your posts for the audience. Connect with one another in this wonderful yoga community the same way you would connect in a physical yoga gathering. Connect with a person, not an invisible group of cyber contacts or computer programs called spiders.

I encourage you to post a message for either of these reasons:

    1. To connect with yourself, using it as a platform to publicly make a stand (i.e. my goal is this, or I believe that, or I am taking this step).

    2. To connect with others, giving them the gift of your thoughts in the written word or asking for help when you need it.

Then remember both your readers and the spiders by including a hyperlink to your site.

Have you noticed, for example, that I have included a link to my Training the Trainer course in almost all of my messages?

People with big ideas face a constant challenge: how to transform that vision into a new and better reality. Whether it’s change in your personal life or success in your business, vision needs action (and rest) to manifest.

LOL, love your post Megan. Thanks for thinking of me and I would encourage anyone interested in a little “Tech Yoga Talk” to check me on in the YogaHub community as I’d be happy to help out or answer questions.

And now for some quick spider food *Wink*Wink*
