Yoga for Youth
[post-img]In many areas of society, yoga for youth is being sought out as an alternative to competitive sports. As an exercise regime, it not only promotes physical and mental health, but it also advocates non-violence and self-discipline.
Y.O.G.A for Youth is just one example of how beneficial yoga can be for young people today. With its mission to “help provide peace of mind for troubled youth with the power of yoga,” Y.O.G.A. for Youth provides yoga classes and meditation training to young people who are incarcerated in the Los Angeles County Detention camps. In a recent study conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts, it was found that an ongoing yoga practice helps to reduce the stress and tensions that often result in violent behavior.
[tip-fact]In many cities, yoga centers are also offering classes to neighborhood youth as a way of giving young people renewed motivation, peace of mind, and a relaxed and open attitude toward themselves and others. A number of schools have also included yoga as part of their daily studies in an effort to improve focus and concentration.[b-quote]
Another example of a program that focuses on yoga for young people is Yoga Ed. in Los Angeles. Yoga Ed. is a yoga education training program that develops “health/wellness programs, trainings and products” for teachers and health practitioners to implement and teach to young people in the classrooms.
Younger children have not been left out either. Yoga Kids is a unique online resource for offers a pose of the week, yoga summer camps, articles, and a wide variety of yoga products for kids.
There are so many benefits in encouraging young people to practice yoga for their physical and mental well-being. A regular yoga practice can offer them a set of skills that will guide them toward leading healthy lifestyles filled with self-respect and personal discipline as they mature into adulthood.{mxc}
