U talkin to – My Body?

Margaret Kruszewska

Since I had to return home before completing a full 10 days of Anusara thought I’d just complete my comments with some follow-up notes — about one of my favorite puzzles in yoga practice- the male authority body (as renown teacher “expert”) instructing female student bodies.

Oh, people will insist that that’s just not true, after all we have Judith Lasatar and Shiva Rae and Patricia Walden and Ana Forrest but they don’t have centers and affiliates named after them the way John Friend and Bikram do. Or language that they’ve trademarked (although that Shiva Rae sure knows how to market her all-American yoga girl stuff!)

So I began to wonder if all the “chest-puffing” I was subjected to in Anusara was just, well, how do I say this to my yogi-brothers- a bit of “breast-envy”?! Women don’t puff their chests cause we’re naturally puffed there- and furthermore my kidneys are puffed cause I got a nice booty too! Sorry, fellows, that you got to work so hard at getting some!

Overall, very disappointing posts about Anusara yoga. To suggest that lifting your heart is about sticking out your breasts is absurd. You really missed the point.

Are you suggesting you couldn’t find one positive aspect of Anusara in 7 hours of class? If that’s the case, then Anusara is definitely not for you.

There are many different styles of yoga, which appeal to many different types of people and personalities for many different reasons. And that is a good thing. The more people that practice yoga, the better. Regardless of style.

I’d expect a little more open-mindedness from someone with a regular yoga practice.

Yes, I do agree that it is very interesting that after not 7 hours, but 10 days that a Yoga Instructor did not have anything positive to say about the form.

I personally have enjoyed the Anusara classes that I have attended. albeit that each class greatly depends on the instructor and how they approach and nurture the students.

Kristen, thank you for pointing out that there are many different styles in Yoga and each person, if chooses, will be able to find a style that assists them in their personal journey at that moment of their life.
