Not Enough Time in a Day

Christina Souza Ma

Why does it always seem like 24 hours in a day is not enough for so many of us?

It’s quite funny how I used to work much longer hours and only managed on three to four hours of sleep each night. This was the flow I had going in my life, which some found horrendous even though it actually worked very well for me back then.

After having my child, I think I am one of the few who have begun to get more sleep rather than less. I have made many adjustments so that I can spend more time with my child, but still there doesn’t seem to be enough time to fit everything in. I cherish the little moments, like watching his tummy rise and fall while he is asleep, or watching the way his body structure changes as the months go by.

When it comes to my business, much of my time is taken up watching how the sites begin to unfold, reading all the wonderful copy from my colleagues and collaborators, and ensuring that the rhythm and flow of a team of individuals continue.

But even though I am able to be aware of so many things, I am also aware of the pieces that don’t get completed. The pieces that take that much more time. The pieces of what others are waiting for me to get done.

I know that I am not the only one who finds the days too short because I have clients that take months and years to get one piece of information to me. Even though they call and say “this is the week!” with such commitment, I then don’t hear from them for months after that, even though I continue to send follow-up emails.

Why is it this way for so many of us? This precious commodity called “time”.

So true! There is never enough time and yet in some ways we often feel that time is not moving fast enough. So much of this I feel boils down to our perception, the state of our spirit, our consciousness. If we could all simply live from moment to moment and not worry about past and future.. simply doing what feels meaningful in the present. Life, however, often does not support such an outlook, it requires us to stay entrenched in the worldly world and conform to universal notions of time, schedules and priorities. The skill required is to strike a fine balance – between juggling all our material responsibilities while still giving ourselves the space to grow and breathe. I have been greatly helped in this regard by the teachings of self-development expert Michael Fischman. He travels the country teaching folks how to achieve this balance in life. He is also a gifted writer: http://www.stumblingintoinfinity.blogspot.com
