Busy? It’s All Perspective

Christina Souza Ma

More and more, I have been overhearing so many conversations about people being so busy in their lives. What does that mean? What does it mean to be busy? Each time I hear that, I notice some sort of negative energy that surrounds it. The scrunched-up nose and upper lip. Never a smile or laughter. Just a sigh.

I began to open my awareness to individuals who say that they are busy so that I could get a better understanding. I say “understanding” because I am busy too. I am busy keeping a business flowing, looking for a school for my son, cleaning my home, which is also an office where people come to work in. I work a minimum of six days a week, but I don’t consider the time I spend with my son as being “busy”, even though I try to keep it as educational and fun as possible. If you’ve ever had to look after children, you’ll understand how much focus and energy is required for that.

I had a good laugh the other day during a conversation about how bad it is to use a cell phone in the car. The people I was conversing with insisted that it’s dangerous because the electro magnetic energies are bad for you, etc. Well, for me, being in my car is almost the only time I can return a call without interruption. It’s the most relaxed time for me to have a personal conversation, when I am alone in my car. You see, many people don’t understand that six days a week when you are the “Boss”, you get bombarded with questions – and ten minutes on the phone is ten minutes of company time as a whole. It’s different when you are working for someone. You have your responsibilities and, when you are done for the day, you get to go home.

So it baffles me when I hear people say they are “busy”. Yet there is time to sit and catch up on the latest Episodic TV, or go out for a drink or dinner, or watch a movie, or read a novel. But there is no time for Yoga, Meditation, or looking after their own health.

I am just so delighted to be able to spend precious moments of time with family and loved ones when I can. Even if it is talking on my cell phone in my car.
