New Computer Blues!

Francesca Silva

apple-imac-computer.jpgI’m sorry…I’m unbelievably sorry I ever complained about my old computer being slow and useless. Sure, it’s almost ten years old, which in computer age, is apparently ancient – but it’s finally dawned on me what “oldie but goodie” really means!

A few weeks ago, we bought a brand, spanking new iMac with all the bells and whistles – 21.5” flat screen, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, etc. etc. etc. My husband, who loves gadgets and electronics (what man doesn’t?!), thinks it’s fabulous. He “plays” on it every evening, teaching himself through trial and error.

I, on the other hand, have decided it’s a monster that’s waiting to attack me. I’m trying to learn how to use it but the learning curve is steep, to put it mildly. And I have to admit that I’m the type of person who wants to know how to do things immediately but doesn’t want to take the time to figure out how to do them. I just want to sit down at this new computer as an instant expert and not have to go through the frustration and hassle of learning all the steps. Unreasonable, I know, but there you go, that’s me – unreasonable at the best of times.

Thankfully, I still have my trusty old computer here (I’m using it to type this blog), but my husband has given me a time limit – a time limit, if you please – on how long it’s going to remain here. He’s threatened to disconnect it over the weekend as he says I’ll never learn the new one if I keep clinging on to this old one. I just hate it when he’s right!

So that’s one steep learning curve I’m going to have to get through over these next few weeks. In the meantime, however, I’m seriously considering handcuffing my wrist to my “oldie but goodie” computer.

Now where did I put my Stress Relief Yoga” DVD…?!

When I first read your subject line, I thought for sure you would be complaining that your old computer was so over-worked and out of shape, and all you wanted for Christmas was a new computer.

However after reading your post, I can hardly believe what I’m hearing. Do you know how many people would give their left pinky finger for a brand new iMac…? You need to kick the habit of that “Old Beast” and say hello to change. Tell your hubby that if he needs any help, I’m first in line to push you off the cliff (to see if you can fly 😉

I know, I know ~ so many people would give anything to have a new computer. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful because I’m certainly not. However, I’m not a computer techie, so right now I’m trying to learn how to walk before I even consider flying!

I’m getting used to “newbie” slowly but surely, thanks in great part to my ever patient husband, who deserves a medal for putting up with me (but then you know that already)! 😉
