NEWS ITEM: Communal Yoga Mats: Beware of Germs

Summary: Studios and gyms often provide yoga mats and equipment for students not having their own. Unfortunately any shared equipment may also carry viruses, fungi and bacteria. New products on the market offer ways to clean mats easily.

My comment: Having your own mat is still the best answer if you are concerned about frequency of cleanings at your yoga studio, and because that mat is a part of your practice. I spent many hours each week cleaning and disinfecting yoga mats which I felt should be available to all students attending classes. But no matter how meticulous the housekeeping at your yoga studio, keep in mind that entering any shared public space exposes you to public germs.
