Research Study Item: Yoga and Counselling in the Treatment of Major Depression

Conclusion: Counselling combined with yoga classes can decrease symptoms in clinical depression.

Details of Study:

University students suffering from major depression were offered counselling services for a six week period and then a second phase of counselling and weekly yoga group classes as part of their depression management treatment. The yoga consisted of physical poses and breathing techniques. When measured for effectiveness and compared to the first phase; scores from the second round of treatment that included yoga showed a significant decrease in symptoms of depression.
