Derek

DK_Karate-Kid.jpgWhen I first started doing yoga, I noticed that breathing is an integral part of the yoga process. Also, the proper technique of exhaling and inhaling is vital in order for you to withstand various stretches and poses for a lengthy period of time.

I distinctly remember a piece of advice from the movie, “The Karate Kid,” where Mr. Miyage would often preach “Breathing. Very Important!” (more…)

Yoga Studio in JapanHere I was, back in Sapporo, my hometown, and at the yoga studio. I deliberately arrived 15 to 20 minutes before class so that I could get accustomed to the environment. But she persisted, suggesting that I might be interested in joining because otherwise I’d have to pay $30 for a single class. (more…)

Being born and raised in Japan, I therefore had a very healthy childhood. I grew up in an area called Sapporo, which is famous for having the best and tastiest fish in the country! Every day, my mother cooked a balanced meal that included fish, vegetables, fruits, rice, miso soup, pickles, pork, and lamb – and not a lot of beef. (more…)
