What's New in the World of Yoga:
YogaHub is proud to present to yoga communities around the web our very first Yoga DVD. "The Gift of Yoga," featuring John Sovec, is being released in conjunction with our welcoming in 2009!
The journey we've taken to be able to present this DVD to you has been a challenging yet fulfilling one, and it's a journey we know we are just beginning because we have so much more to offer you in the world of yoga.
John Sovec is a psychotherapist and a Yogini with a practice in Pasadena, California. He teaches at Yoga House but also gives private sessions in schools and businesses where he continues to bring awareness to the world of yoga. He is loved and respected by many individuals who appreciate his knowledge and passion for yoga, and he creates an abundance of enthusiasm and joy wherever he goes.
John continually supports and encourages his students, who range from business people to members of a football team, to regain their confidence and inner strength. This Yogini has the utmost dedication to gifting his time, especially to Aids organizations and teenagers who are going through difficult periods in their life journeys.
I heard about John several years ago from a friend who loved his Wednesday night class and would diligently make a point to attend it. Now, this is saying a lot because my friend was not one who would make time for just anything. I was so intrigued that I decided to attend one of John's classes, and I was thrilled to discover that my friend was right – John was nothing short of inspirational. At that time, I was still very new to Yoga but I appreciated the fun he brought to the room, as well as the lovely quotes he would share with us during Shivasana.
So when YogaHub began to venture down the path of creating DVDs, John was on the top of the list. I wanted to capture the essence of his strength and nurturing spirit in a short 30-minute sequence. As a beginner Yogini wanting to introduce more people to Yoga, I was conscious of the need to produce a DVD sequence that would encourage beginners. I asked John to create a sequence that would not deter a beginner but would teach simple asanas that could be held for longer periods so that the beginner would not feel overwhelmed or rushed.
And that's exactly what John did! This yoga sequence is light enough for a beginner and yet challenging enough for the intermediate. John's pace and guidance makes you feel comfortable, no matter what level you are at. It is only 30 minutes long so you have the option of doing it in the morning, before you go to work, or at the end of the day to relieve tension and fatigue from a long day's work.

John's background is in dance and theatre, and this is his first DVD. He says he has always wanted to be a stocking stuffer, bringing joy during the Christmas Season. This DVD, however, will ensure that John will continue to bring joy to people, not only during the festive season but throughout the year.
Thank you, John, for your dedication and commitment to the Yoga Communities. We are so much richer in mind, body and spirit because of your inspirational contributions to our world of yoga.
Namaste,

Happy New Yoga Year! by Francesca Silva
So there I was, at a New Year's party where, apart from my husband and my mother, I didn't know anyone except my cousin, who was hosting the party. The other guests, although friendly and sociable, spent most of the time chatting about hockey and their children. Having no interest in hockey and no children, this left me at somewhat of a disadvantage but I persevered with the small talk, trying to find something in common with someone. Continue Reading...
