What's New in the World of Yoga: "He flies through the air with the greatest of ease. That daring young man on the flying trapeze!" ~ Song Lyrics by Gaston Lyle and George Leybourne Have you been feeling a bit weighed down by your regular yoga routine lately? Maybe you're looking for an opportunity to add something new and unique to your yoga flow in order to motivate yourself to continue with your classes? Well, have you ever considered doing yoga in mid-air – without a parachute? Those with vertigo need not apply! Crunch Gyms in Los Angeles and New York are now offering an exciting new class called "Wings." This one-hour class combines inverted yoga poses, Pilates, and some dance movements performed by individuals who are suspended from a fabric hammock. The AntiGravity Hammock, which can hold up to 1,000 pounds, is likened to "a swing or soft trapeze" that is held in place by connectors from the ceiling. This exhilarating program was developed by Christopher Harrison, the Founder and Artistic Director of an acrobatic performance troupe called AntiGravity Inc, and Jess Gronholm, Crunch's National Yoga Director. As an aerialist artist and athlete, Christopher found that using the AntiGravity hammock "could change one's dynamic relationship to the ground, allowing the participant to better understand their body and its relationship to physics." According to AntiGravity Yoga, the benefits of the class allow you to "stretch further with less strain" and "create better body awareness while increasing overall agility." Jess Gronholm also affirms that "It helps to create that space between each vertebra and create that length through the spine." People who have participated in AntiGravity Yoga are enthusiastic about how much fun it is. According to participant Judy Greengold, "There is a sense of humor about it, and I've always wanted to be on a trapeze anyway." | Volume 1 - Issue 16 YH Quick Links | Shop at YogaHub | YogaHub.TV | Our Sponsors
