What's New in the World of Yoga: "Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again." ~ Joseph Campbell Finding a quiet corner in your home where you can meditate or practice your yoga can sometimes be a challenge. We often find that any available space in our home is overwhelmed with stacks of paperwork, children's toys, or even this week's laundry. So how can we create a sacred space in our very active homes? Perhaps a good place to begin is by identifying how we view our homes. Denise Linn, spiritual teacher, healer, and author of "Sacred Space", reflects that "our homes are mirrors of ourselves. Through them we can interface with the universe." Denise practices transforming the energies in people's homes through combined practices that include Native American purifications, Feng Shui object placement, and numerology. Once you have decided where you would like your sacred space to be in your home, there are several ways you can personalize the area. For some, it involves creating an altar with items that represent their spiritual path, such as hanging a picture from a favorite trip that brings memories of a peaceful retreat. A collection of other personal items can include a stone, a feather, or even a piece of cloth – anything that holds a special meaning for you. Placing a favorite chair, a rug and a pillow will also help you define your scared space for meditation. You can also let your family participate in creating this retreat so that everyone feels a responsibility for keeping it free of outside clutter. In the end, the act of defining a sacred space is about making an offering to your own spirit for growth and rejuvenation. Have fun exploring.
