It's always better to start with a yoga class first just to get an idea of how to do the poses correctly. You will notice the difference when the instructor adjusts your body. When there is not time for class, having a DVD to supplement the practice is what I do. Also, depending on your comfort level, the experience of a classroom and of your own living room is quite different.
