Six yoga sessions on DVD focus on postures to help gardeners, although non-gardeners will love it, too. Often when a posture is being done in the session, Gail shows a corresponding shot of a task or stretch being performed in the garden, so you will see how the posture can apply. She also shows many pose modifications. The students are 'real people' who both garden and do yoga. All of the sessions are mainly at a beginning level. In addition to the six yoga sessions, there are chapters called Why Yoga? and Yoga Preliminaries which will be extremely interesting even to those who have been doing yoga for awhile. Why Yoga? explains, among other things, the yoga principle of non-violence. Gail and her assistant, master gardener Maille Arnold, explain that the principle includes non-violence to the body, and they demonstrate ways to put the principle in action. Yoga Preliminaries includes a demonstration of various anatomical points using a skeleton as a model. The six yoga sessions and their length in minutes are: Core Basics (12), Legs (17), Opening the Shoulders (10), Back Strength (14), Arms Flow (13), and Relaxation (20). Gail Dubinsky is an orthopedic physician specializing in soft tissue injuries and has taught yoga for 16 years. |
